Why buying fabric is getting harder for craft shops

デジタルプリント生地の色展開|Greentex

Sadly, a number of small and mid-sized fabric wholesalers and makers in Japan have closed in recent months.

What is happening

There are several reasons.

  • Rising costs. With prices up worldwide, greige fabric and freight both cost more, and the old prices can no longer be kept.
  • Stock that does not move. Conventional printing needs about 3,000 m per run, and today's market cannot absorb that much.
  • Shortages. Because the minimum run is so large, a print that sells out is rarely made again.
  • Fewer prints. For the same reason, printers have become cautious about new designs.

Each company also has its own internal reasons.

Digital printing as an option

For craft shops, we recommend a newer way of producing fabric: digital printing.

  • You can make original prints that only your shop has.
  • You do not need to hold stock. Order again when you need more.
  • Prints are not discontinued and do not run out.

You can offer more prints without holding more stock. It answers the problems many shops face today.
