What is triple gauze? How it differs from double gauze, and why it is chosen for babies
Triple gauze is three layers of gauze woven together. In Japan it is also called T gauze. It is thicker and fluffier than double gauze.
How it differs from double gauze
Double gauze has two layers. Triple gauze has three. The extra layer holds more air.
It feels softer and absorbs more. It puffs up with every wash and gets gentler on the skin.
Why it suits baby items
Anything that touches a baby's skin needs to be soft and absorbent. Triple gauze is often used for bibs, hats, underwear and bodysuits.
It soaks up sweat and drool and dries quickly. For adults it works for pyjamas, handkerchiefs and scarves.
Notes for sewing
Gauze shrinks when washed. Wash it before you cut.
With three layers it shifts a little when cutting and sewing. Use plenty of pins or clips.
